Williams reaches half century of SVNS appearances

Morgan Williams has been one of three Welsh men players involved in this year's GB7s squad

Morgan Williams became just the third Welshmen to play in 50 tournaments on the HSBC SVNS circuit when he led Great Britain out against France in the Los Angeles leg at Dignity Health Sports Park yesterday.

He follows Adam Thomas and Luke Treharne as the only Welsh players to have reached the half century mark. Both Thomas and Treharne finished their international careers on 50 appearances.

Williams played in 19 tournaments on the international circuit with Wales before the home unions merged prior to the 2022-23 campaign to play as Great Britain.

Williams’ silky passing skills were to the fore in the opening game against France, where his sublime passing put Matt Davidson over in the third minute against Argentina. His lazer passing saw Charlton Kerr whizz over in the final minute but it wasn’t enough as Argentina ran out 33-26 winners.

Great Britain also lost on day one to South Africa (12-10) and France (24-10) to set up a final game in the 7th place play off against Fiji.
