SRC play-offs set for big kick-off at Bridgend

Bridgend will have to keep Swansea dangerman Harri Houston quiet if they are to come away with a win

The Super Rygbi Cymru play-offs kick-off tonight (Thursday 24 April – kick-off 7.30pm) with the first of two Wild Card matches involving the bottom four of the 10 teams in the new league.

Bridgend will host Swansea at the Brewery Field in a game that will decide which club travels to face table-topping Cardiff in the quarter finals next week.

Cardiff finished top of the pile with Ebbw Vale, Newport and Llandovery making up the top four, who will all have home advantage in the quarter finals.

Saturday sees RGC host Carmarthen Quins in the other Wild Card game. The winner of that game at Parc Eirias will head to Eugune Cross Park to face Ebbw Vale in the last eight.

Pontypool and Aberavon, who finished in fifth and sixth respectively, will be away in the quarters. Pooler head to Llandovery, while Newport entertain Aberavon. Should they win their quarter finals, both Cardiff and Ebbw Vale will have home semi-finals.

The final is due to be played at the regional home of the highest qualifying team to reach the final.

The Ravens come into the game on the back of a superb 34-33 home win over Llandovery. They also beat Swansea 38-10 earlier in the season at home.

Bridgend are boosted by the return of additional regional resources with Tom Florence and Lewis Jones joining Matholwch Iorwerth Scott in the starting lineup. Elsewhere, Baldwin largely sticks with the squad which picked up that final day victory over the Drovers, with just four personnel or positional changes across the starting lineup.
