One title left to be decided in Admiral National Leagues

Bridgend Athletic were crowned champions of Division 1 West Central

The champions in 26 of the 27 Admiral National Leagues outside the Championship have now been decided with only the winners of Division 4 East Central to be determined.

In that division, Dinas Powys are top of the table but could be overtaken by second place Ferndale. They head to Brackla on Saturday to try to pick up the five points and the win they need to win the title.

Five points will ensure they finish level on 74 points with Dinas, but they would then have one more win – 15 to 14 – that would declare them as champions.

That game is one of only 24 league fixtures remaining after the bulk of the season came to an end last weekend.

There was high drama in Division 1 East as Penarth beat table topping St Joseph’s 25-22 to inflict the first defeat of the season on the visitors. With Abercynon winning 59-31 at Llanishen it meant they tied with St Joseph’s on 77 points.

Welshpool won the Division 2 North title

Both teams won 15 games, so the determining factor in who took the title, and promotion to the Championship East next season, was the side that lost the least number of matches.

That meant St Joseph’s took the title with one defeat to Abercynon’s two. It doesn’t come much tighter than that!

In Division East 1 and 2 the champions both went into their last games knowing they had to win to finish top. Abertillery BG pipped Nelson to the crown in the top tier thanks to a 28-19 win at Bedlinog, making it four successive promotions, while Blackwood took the Division 2 title with a 9-0 home win over Abercarn.

In Division 4 East, Gwernyfed will be hoping to complete their league campaign without being beaten when they host third place Crumlin. Gwernyfed have won 16 and drawn one of their 17 games to date.

Tredegar Ironsides won Division 5 East with a perfect record of 16 wins, while Caerphilly will be aiming to round off their Division 2 East Central season in style when they travel to Cowbridge this week. They have won 17 out of 17 to date and are currently 19 points clear at the top of their table, while Pontycymer won Division 5 East Central with a 100% record in their 14 fixtures.

Pontycymer went through their Division 5 East Central campaign unbeaten

Nant Conwy are cocks of the north after they beat their nearest rivals Pwllheli 25-24 in a thriller last weekend to complete a perfect season of 22 wins. That took them to 103 points and left Pwllheli trailing 12 behind with a game to go.

Bro Ffestiniog were also unbeaten in securing the Division 3 North West title, winning all 16 matches to gain promotion. Neath Athletic were also unbeaten in their 18 games in Division 3 West Central, while Bonymaen Athletic clinched the Division 5 West Central title with a win over Penlan last weekend and have two games left to play to retain their unbeaten season.

In the West, Aberystwyth took top spot, and promotion to the Championship West, by a point over Tenby United. Neyland and New Dock Stars lost only once in winning the Division 4 West A and B titles
