Bonymaen and Narberth’s battle to avoid relegation from the Admiral Premiership looks set to go right to the wire.
Narberth, who now only have one game left, remain just above the bottom two after a crucial 29-17 home win over Cross Keys at the Lewis Lloyd Ground.
Centres Llew Jones and Hedd Nicholas, scrum-half Lewys Gibby and second rows Will Blackburn and Sam Martin scored for the Otters, with Jonathan Rogers converting two of them. Tom Burnham, Corey Nicholls and Jon Verrier were the Keys scorers.
Bonymaen were victorious 43-28 over Brecon at Parc Mawr. Centre Steffan Pryce-Griffiths and wing Sam Jones bagged braces for Bony. No 8 Rhys Leonard and full-back Lawrence Thomas also scored, with the latter also kicking five conversions and one penalty.
Bony still have a game in hand on Narberth but face two of the top three in their remaining two games. Narberth, who have 41 points, play their final game of the season at already relegated Newcastle Emlyn on Saturday
Bonymaen – on 38 points – are at home at the weekend when they entertain Neath. They then host championship favourites Merthyr in a rearranged game on 7 May.
Merthyr’s march towards the title continued with a thumping 64-21 bonus point win over Newbridge at the Wern. The Ironmen ran in 10 tries and brought up 1,000 points for the season in the process.
They were 40-0 up by half time. Ellis Shipp, Craig Locke, twice, Ben Jones, Daniel Phillips and Daf Land all scored in the first half. Ben Jones was successful with five of six conversions.
Jones scored his second try after the break, with Fin Baker, Jack Kathrens and Cerith Lloyd also on the scoresheet. Jacob Lloyd added two conversions.
Merthyr have four matches remaining, with trips to Brecon and Bonymean in there along with home clashes with Neath and Llangennech. The league leaders are seven points clear of Premiership Cup winners Pontypridd with a game in hand.
Pontypridd have a match with Neath at Sardis Road sandwiched between visits to Ystrad Rhondda and Bargoed to compete their league programme. Wing Sam Talbot helped himself to a hat-trick to help steer them to a 48-7 victory over Newcastle Emlyn.
Talbot scored the game’s opening try after just 40 seconds to set them on their way. Stuart Floyd-Ellis also scored twice with Rob Jones, Jude Williams and Garyn Smith the other Ponty try scorers. Jacob Symes and Rhodri Smith added two conversions apiece, while Bleddyn Morgan replied for Emlyn, converted by Mike Jones.
Neath, in third, scored five tries on their way to a 33-17 win at Cardiff Met. The visitors used the wind to their advantage to rack up a 33-10 half time lead and then defended it adequately enough in the second half.
Centre Kieran Charles led the way with a brace of tries, with others coming from hooker Josh Clark, winger Rhodri Wall alongside a penalty try. Steff Williams kicked three conversions.
Cardiff Met replied with tries by winger Dylan Scott (2) and flanker Josh Hart, with outside half Tom Howlett converting one.
