Wales – who had their best Six Nations tournament in a decade last season with two wins and a draw – open their campaign against Italy on Sunday 2 February (1pm). They then travel to Dublin on Sunday 9 February for the second time of the season after confirming a Test against Ireland on November 17 to complete their autumn line-up.

Rowland Phillips’ side return to the capital to welcome France on Sunday 23 February 12 noon. A trip to the Stoop awaits to face current champions England on Saturday 7 March before ending the Six Nations at home against Scotland on Sunday 15 March.

Phillips said, “We are thrilled with how the flow of matches works out this season. It’s great to have three home matches, especially in our first and final games of the campaign.

“Italy finished second in last season’s championship, with a convincing win over France in their final game. They have been moving in the right direction for a number of years now so it’ll be a huge challenge but one we’re looking forward to.

“It’s so important we start the tournament well. The Six Nations is pretty unforgiving so we want to be on the front foot from the outset.

“Cardiff Arms Park is a great venue for us, we benefitted from some fantastic support last season and we hope to build on that this season.”

Wales ended last season’s Six Nations with a last ditch 17-15 win over Scotland at Scotstoun and an impressive 24-5 defeat of Ireland at the Arms Park. They are looking to build on those games this season.

“Ireland in Dublin will be another big Six Nations challenge. We know each other really well and although we were pleased with how our game came together in March, we need to perform better away from home to continue the momentum.

“The French public has really embraced international women’s rugby and are extremely well-supported on their own turf. They are a quality side and the only way to beat quality sides is to produce a quality performance. All the teams are making great strides and we must step up again in order to be competitive this season. England will be smarting this season after losing out to New Zealand in the Super Series final and Scotland have some outstanding players and are building under a new coaching team. Following our Women’s Regional Programme, our five-match autumn series will help to expose new players, developing our strength in depth.”
